Stellantis, a global leader in the automotive industry and the owner of brands such as Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, Opel, and Peugeot, has selected Quanta Energy as its partner in the decarbonization of its facilities in Poland.

The project involves the construction of photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of nearly 58 MW, which will supply energy to four Stellantis production plants in Gliwice, Skoczów, and two in Tychy. As part of the collaboration, the largest carports in Central Europe will also be built, with a combined capacity of nearly 7 MW.

Approximately 94,300 photovoltaic modules will be used for the construction of the farms, covering almost 54 hectares of land—an area equivalent to 3,333 volleyball courts.

„We are proud to collaborate with Stellantis on this strategic project. Together, we are setting the direction and demonstrating how innovation and responsibility are shaping the automotive industry. By leveraging our knowledge and experience, we support Stellantis in achieving its sustainability goals,” said

Piotr Grzybczak, CEO of Quanta Energy. He also highlighted that this multi-phase project demands extensive expertise, precision, and exceptional coordination from the Quanta Energy team.

At the Stellantis passenger car plant in Tychy, the project has reached a key milestone. Following the decommissioning of an inefficient coal-fired heating plant last year, preparations for the photovoltaic farm’s construction are currently underway. A symbolic moment in this transformation was the demolition of a 150-meter chimney, marking a significant step in the energy transition of the European automotive industry.

The first photovoltaic farm, with a capacity of 2 MW, was completed and put into operation three months ahead of schedule. Since the end of January, the system has been operational, supplying power to the Stellantis engine manufacturing plant in Tychy. The investment has now entered the next phase, which includes the implementation of an energy storage system (BESS) and a carport. By the end of this year, the Tychy factory is expected to be approximately 56% energy-independent on an annual average.

„Thanks to this investment, Stellantis’ Polish plants are becoming more energy-independent while also being more environmentally friendly. The reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, increased energy supply security, and lower operational costs are tangible benefits. These advantages are invaluable in an ever-changing business environment and in the face of growing international competition,” said Sławomir Czerneckidirector of the engine manufacturing plant in Tychy.

The amount of electricity generated by the photovoltaic farms built for Stellantis by Quanta Energy would be sufficient to power nearly 20,000 households in Poland annually or to drive 3.3 million kilometers in an electric vehicle.
